Seiko 4006 service manual

Seiko 4006 service manual

I have a good friend, a brother in Christ Jesus, who I've known for many years. He knows I've embarked on retraining myself for a new career in Watchmaking, and seen my first two restored watches. He told me that his old faithful Seiko 5, which he's worn everyday for 12 years, has recently had issues. Occasionally it will advance rapidly in time up to an hour in a few seconds and then just keep ticking away normally.

The pattern on the screen looked like a B drop in Nam stupid me forgot to take a photoand I told him that his watch definitely needed an inspection and service. So started my research on what the problem might be.

After reading a "Practical Watchmaking", and the many forums that I've read, I was pretty sure it was the Pallet Fork One unusual aspect of this watch is the crown I suppose since this is an automatic watch, they thought it didn't need to be wound.

This watch also has a display back, so extra special care not to mark any of the plates, or damage screw heads! The first issue you'll face when working on a 7S26A Movement, is how to get the stem out!

I took this photo once the movement was out to best illustrate where to push. Remove the Hands, Dial and Oscillating Weight 2. Gently lever up one end of the circlip and carefully work your way around. You then should be able to raise the circlip up the length of the shaft without it pinging off. Use a 1. I had to journey down to my nearest Seiko Distributor and grab one Remove Date Jumper, and note that the Date Drivewheel lips over the top of the plate.

Unscrew the Balance Cock and remove the Balance. Also unscrew the Pellet Cock and remove the Pellet Fork. That's a well put together post and great illustrations.

Anyone about to embark on servicing or repairing one of these will find it very helpful. Thanks very much for taking the time to post this. I'm looking forward to the reassembly. I have a 7s26 with a damaged pallet stone to fix. Excellent post Lawson! What amazing pictures! May I ask if it was hard to get the original pallet fork replacement? I'm also in the U. I haven't ordered it yet, but I found the Seiko Pallet Here's the link to my first watch that I ever serviced If you're in the USA send "bobm12" a private message about getting one, he should be able to hook you up.

This is a very easy watch to re-assemble. In fact I'd recommend the 7S26A to be the first Japanese Movement to practice on, because it's so beautifully and logically laid out. The only downside to this watch is that you have to buy one special tool from Seiko, the S Philipshead Screwdriver; but it's not very expensive and once you've got it, you have it for life. Service: Seiko Bellmatic 4006-7010 calibre 4006A

I'm towards finishing restoring my first Bellmatic. The issue is this: when I fully tighten the 3 screws of the date dial guard, the unlocking wheel will no longer rotate, meaning that you can't set the alarm time. I have to loosen the screws quite a lot to allow the wheel to rotate freely. But if they are too loose then there is not a enough downward pressure on the wheel and the alarm is able to sound even when the bumps on the hour wheel aren't lined up with the holes in the unlocking wheel.

So I have to find just the right loose-ness to allow the wheel to rotate and the alarm to function as it should. Cigarette packs are covered with a thin transparant cover, for protection from moisture and Which I cut shims or pieces out of, to place under the date ring guard. The size of the shims and how close to the screws you place them, are the tools of precise adjustment at your disposal.

You will get perfect results in a few tries. I discovered what was causing the problem. I had lubricated the teeth of the clutch wheel that interface with the setting wheel as the Seiko service manual says to do. This was causing the teeth of the the clutch wheel to slip over the teeth of the setting wheel when there was some resistance caused by the downward pressure of the friction spring.

This solved the problem: I can now fully tighten the screws of the dial date guard and finish the watch. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account.

By antonyh Started March Christian sent in this Seiko Bellmatic for a case polish and service. This is an alarm watch with day and date display, so a fairly complex beast. The crown has three positions — pushed in to wind the alarm, middle position to set the alarm, and pulled out to set the time and date.

The movement has 27 jewels. The usual Japanese way to construct and auto winder. The dial and hands do not only look good, but are in great condition as well.

The date ring has some discolouration and damage, but I can get hold of a new one. No lack of complexity here. Now I can turn my attention to the movement itself. As you can see, there is no lack of parts. I start off with a new mainspring. I start off with the base movement. Putting together the bottom plate is the time consuming bit. The old and new date ring. Back together. Very nice work! I would appreciate if you could let us know which main spring you used, dimensions or parts number at cousinsuk.

I have what appears to be a dolphin back Also, in the event that incorrect parts are found upon inspection, do you have the vintage parts to bring it back to authentic? Anything from degrees upwards is fine for a Seiko. Hello, I have this exact same watch, which has not run for quite some time. A nearby watch repair shop took a look and unfortunately lost a screw. Can you service my Seiko? Do you know anyone who repairs these watches?

I tried to contact Seiko North America and they do not repair them again? It has not run in a number of years. Thank you for any help. The Seiko Bell Matic is one of those lesser-known vintage watches from the 60s and 70s, but it is becoming more popular. Especially since a lot of the models for sale on Ebay and the like are not of great quality. By no means the first ever mechanical watch with an alarm, it was still a model worth paying attention to. There were a number of variations and movement changes over the period these watches were made — and I will cover them in detail below.

I will do my best to provide images where I can, but due to copyright reasons I may not be able to get images of many and all models. So, if you have a Bell Matic and are open to having it displayed in this guide, please get in touch. I would love to showcase your watch! The very first Bell Matic was the It is quite different from a lot of the later models in a number of significant ways. First, the earlier model, which is very very yes two verys rare features a caseback with a distinctive dolphin emblazoned on the center of the case.

It also has a notch where the alarm pusher is located. All of the earliest models have a 27 jewel A automatic alarm movement. This was the highest jewel count of these movements as they subsequently started lowering them to 21 jewels, for a short time, and then the majority of the models had 17 jewels.

This was different to the A movement which I will show you below. This dial is designated as the T AD. Note: I have read that the Diashock was available on both the dolphin caseback and non, so there may be other dial designations I am not aware of.

It was only used by Seiko for a very short time. The best guess I can find is from this forum where it is mentioned that it was in the early Bell Matics for about 1 year from Because this movement was only available at the beginning of the Bell Matic range, it comes in the 27 Jewel variant only. In terms of dials and colors, I have seen a T AD dial in white and black with stainless steel case.

There is also a partially gold-plated one, with matching gold case. The final version I have seen is a bright blue one with jewels instead of rectangular hour markers — this is the T dial. You can see an example of the T AD in while in this video below. It shows how the alarm function works with the rotating of the crown, which in turn rotates the alarm ring on the bezel to set the alarm time.

The pusher sets the alarm and can also be used as a quick-set for the date. There was a short period of time in where Seiko reduced the jewel count in the A movement to These models came in two case variants — the and you can see images of these two in this forum postlast two imagesbut they are very hard to find.

Some people also warn that they are often not true 21J models as the dials are often changed, so beware if you are buying one as they are rarely the real deal. If you want to see what the insides of such a 21J variant look like, this post from Richard at the Watch Spot Blog has a very detailed breakdown of a case.

Image Courtesy of Wikipedia. It was then used in almost all Bell Matics moving forward until the end of their production in Again, these models are very rare and were only produced early on in the Bell Matic life during There are two case models for this particular Bell, the Dial T and the Dial T which you can see images of in this forum post on the topic.

As you will note by the post comments, this is a very rare model indeed. This model has a very large and yes, UFO-like case that gives it its name. They have a wide minute band around the outer rim of the dial along with thin raised hour marker bars.

There seems to be a variety of colors for this watch, including this blue dial with hold alarm ring. There is also an all-black version, with red alarm marker.
